Baby Shower Gift Accidentally Includes Rifle

Crestview, Florida – A baby shower gift accidentally included a rifle along with the intended gift of an infant bouncer.

According to military wife, Veronica Alvarez-Rodriguez, she had stopped by the Goodwill to purchase a gift for a friends baby shower when she came across a new-in-the-box Baby Einstein bouncer. For only $9.99 she bought the bouncer and took it to the baby shower.

During the party, the soon to be father opened the gift and said, “you guys got me a gun,” then pulled out something Alvarez-Rodriguez hadn’t expected, a Mossberg 715T rifle.

“When you go to the Goodwill for a baby shower gift thinking you got a good deal on a bouncer ($10) not even opened and you end up opening a ?MOSSBERG 715T Semi-Auto Rifle,” Alvarez-Rodriguez said on Facebook.

“This was Valparaiso Goodwill, Serial number (of the rifle) was clean & Crestview Police said do what you want with it? The gun now belongs to Baby Jonathan who is due to enter this world any day now ? #wegiftedhimhisfirstgun.”

The bolt was locked, the rifle unloaded and the magazine removed, pictures of the firearm posted to social media shows a loaded pistol magazine, with what appears to be 2 boxes of pistol caliber ammunition. But it is unclear at this time if those items were also in the box along with the firearm.

“All of our husbands are military, there were five soldiers around, so they knew what kind of gun it was right away,” she told CNN. “All the questions from people at the party started coming in, and everyone was just laughing.”

Alvarez-Rodriguez went on to say that the Crestview Police Department requested the rifle be turned over to them for 90 days while they investigate who it belonged to.

In response to misinformation being reported by other news outlets, Mrs. Alvarez-Rodriguez had this to say:

“To all the news reporters and everyone else following the story…I am not a crestview mom & I am not a Floridian! I did not expect to find a gun in a baby box and NO the rifle was not fully loaded as the media is switching our story. Also you can see the rifle fits in the box in the video I posted that’s all ??‍♀️ still can’t believe this happening ??‍♀️ #JustACaliforniaGirlLivingInFlorida”

The Mossberg 715T is a semi-automatic rifle made to resemble an AR 15. It is chambered for .22 and many customers claim the poor design of the magazine leads to frequent malfunctions.
