Mother Defends Children from Home Invader W/ Ax

Orange County Florida – A Florida woman defended herself and her children from a home invader who chopped his way into their home Tuesday evening.

According to Orange County Sheriff John Mina, the mother, who is also one of his deputies, was at her home in the Rolling Oaks neighborhood at around 5:30 p.m. when she heard a crashing noise coming from her back door.

The mother armed herself and went to investigate where she found a man with an ax breaking his way in. She fired on the suspect, striking him several times.

“She was in fear for her life and the lives of her children, so she shot the suspect multiple times,” said the Sheriff.

But he still gained entry to the home. After a brief struggle, the victim was able to handcuff the downed intruder until officers could arrive to take over the scene.

Sheriff Mina said his deputies had already been dispatched to the area for reports of the same suspect breaking into other homes in the community with his ax.

The suspect was taken to Orlando Health for treatment of his injuries and expected to survive the wounds. When he is cleared by medical staff, Sheriff Mina said he will be charged with at least armed burglary if not more charges.

“This could happen to anyone but our deputies are trained to protect ourselves, protect our communities and this person broke into a deputy’s home with an ax — and who knows what his intentions were — but anyone like that is going to be met with lethal force by our deputies and I think she did a great job,” Mina said.
