JUSTIFIED: Miami Man Protects his Toddler from Home Invader
A Miami homeowner fatally shot a man who was breaking into his house, according to local Miami-Dade police.
According to the officers on the scene, the homeowner opened fire on a man who had entered the home, located in the area of Northwest 71st Street and Fifth Place, just after noon.
A woman who said she lives in the home stated that the homeowner was inside the home with their 3-year-old son at the time of the attempted burglary. She said the child alerted his father there was someone else in the house, and it was at that point that the homeowner encountered the perpetrator and discharged his firearm, killing him.
A friend of the family, who asked not to be identified, said the homeowner called her and informed her what had happened.
“The guy that was trying to get away got shot, and he didn’t make it out,” she said.
The family friend came by shortly after the shooting and picked up the homeowner’s son.
“I got a phone call to come get the son because the son was in the house during the time of the situation,” she said.
The family friend added that the home had been targeted by burglars once before.
“This is the second time they tried to rob the house. They got away the first time, but the second time, it was not happening,” she said.
According to the woman who lives at the residence, the homeowner was taken to the police station for further questioning but was later released. There were no charges filed against the homeowner, however, his identity and the identity of those involved has been kept from the public eye for safety purposes.
As for the young child, he is currently safe and is staying with his grandmother for the time being.
